Calls financial planning companies to ask whether you're interested in being advertised at a 'local Doctors Surgery'. Essentially you pay them a hefty fee to have brochures in their clinic. It's a large rip off and basically an advertising scam to generate revenue. I politely told the caller that our company wasn't interested and she condescendingly told me that we didn't know what we weren't interested in and to put her onto someone more senior (note that a senior adviser had told me earlier that day on another call that we were not interested). I informed her that our senior adviser had let me know we weren't interested and she continued to talk down to me, replying 'okay, well you don't know what you're not interested in but that's okay...' I then hung up. Rude!

If you're concerned that a phone call, SMS, voicemail or email claiming to be from the ATO is not genuine, don’t reply to it. Instead you should either:
